Who Speaks for the Middle Class?
In San Diego more than most regions, the middle class is shrinking and threatened.
Over the past three decades, the San Diego regional standard of living has grown slower than that of the United States as a whole. Many working families are losing health coverage as insurance premiums become unaffordable. In schools, our children are seeing larger class sizes, distressed teachers and increasing high school dropout rates. While local employers seek more graduates with technical degrees, state universities, community colleges and vocational schools are becoming less affordable, resulting in decreasing enrollment. The Middle-Class Taxpayers Association
is a new nonprofit advocacy organization to serve as a voice for a stronger middle-class in the collection and spending of taxpayer dollars in San Diego.
